Around Saukville.
Saukville started at a crossroads. Green Bay Road and Dekora Road met at the Milwaukee River long before settlers arrived in the 1840s. In 1848 the Payne Hotel opened as a stagecoach stop on the Milwaukee–Green Bay route, and it still stands, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The village incorporated in 1915 and grew about five-fold between 1950 and 1980, after I-43 connected it to Milwaukee and Sheboygan.
Today Saukville has I-43 Exit 96, a business district along the interstate, and parks along the river, including Peninsula Park, home of the Crossroads Rendezvous. There's a Sunday farmers market in Veterans Park through the summer and fall. To the west is the 2,200-acre Cedarburg Bog, one of the largest and best-preserved bogs in eastern Wisconsin. Grafton and Port Washington are next door, and Saukville students attend the Port Washington-Saukville School District.
Homes and electrical work
That post-war growth shows in the housing. Census estimates (ACS 2020–2024) put about 29% of Saukville's homes in the 1970s and another 15% in the 1960s. Around 20% are from the 1990s, and the median home was built around 1977. Only a small share are pre-1940.
