Around Adell.
Adell is a small village of about 500 people on Highway 57 in southwestern Sheboygan County. It grew up around a railroad depot and was first called Sherman Station, after the town it sits in. The name changed to Adell when a post office opened, and the village incorporated in 1918. The old downtown and the village hall and fire station are still the center of town.
Drive between Random Lake and Adell and you pass the Adell Wildlife Area on the east side of Highway 57, with swamp hardwoods and prairie fields popular with hunters and birders. Around the village it's mostly farmland and rural homes, with Cascade, Waldo, Silver Creek and Random Lake all close by. Plymouth is farther north up Highway 57.
Homes and electrical work
Adell has some of the oldest housing in our area. Census estimates (ACS 2020–2024) put about 28% of the village's homes before 1940 and another quarter in the 1970s. The median home was built around 1970. Outside the village limits, many properties are farmhouses and rural homes with outbuildings. What that means for electrical work:
- Older village homes can have original wiring, ungrounded outlets, undersized service or a panel that's been added onto over the years. See signs your home needs rewiring and replacing two-prong outlets.
