Around Belgium.
Belgium has one of the best origin stories in Wisconsin. Its settlers came from Luxembourg, but in 1857 a postal mix-up gave them the name "Belgium," while a Belgian settlement in Kewaunee County ended up as "Luxemburg." The ties to Luxembourg are still strong. The Luxembourg American Cultural Society and its museum are here, and Luxembourg Fest takes over Community Park each August after a parade down Main Street.
The village sits along I-43 at Exit 107, two miles west of Lake Michigan. Harrington Beach State Park, the only state park in Ozaukee County, is right to the east, near the Lake Church area on County D. The Ozaukee Interurban Trail runs through town toward Cedar Grove and Port Washington, and Belgium students attend the Cedar Grove-Belgium schools just to the north. Nearby hamlets include Lake Church, Holy Cross and Dacada.
Homes and electrical work
Belgium has grown a lot recently. Census estimates (ACS 2020–2024) show roughly 45% of homes built in 2000 or later, and a median build year of about 1994. The older village core is different: over a quarter of homes are pre-1960, many from the 1940s or earlier.
